Slumdog Millionaire - a film by Danny Boyle

I went to watch this movie. A very inspiring movie that tell a story about the incredible life of a little boy, Jamal Malik who grew up in the slums of Mumbai. I really love every single moment of the movie. This movie is also based on the book "Q & A" by Vikas Swarup.

The 3rd Singapore Indie Doc Fest

I went to catch "Strawberry fields" with xy- a documentary by filmmaker Ayelet Heller and her Gazan crew. A documentary which showed the dispute over Israel and the Palestine that had also affected badly on the livelihood of the farmers. It's very sad to know that currently there are no alternative to the problem.

Producers synopsis taken from International Documentary Festival Amsterdam

This is the story of a strawberry who yearned for independence.
Imagine a story about hope, frustration, occupation, globalization and politics, and at its center a small red fruita strawberry. The mother plants arrive from Israel to Gaza, where in the fields the plants are cultivated to produce the brilliant red fruit destined for marketing in Europe.

In this fateful year in Gaza, filmmaker Ayelet Heller and her Gazan crew documented the agricultural cycle of the fruit and the political events that directly affected the lives of the farmers who cultivate it. From the strawberry fields of Beit Lahiya we witnessed the Disengagement, the withdrawal of the IDF from Gaza and its re-entrance after two months. In December the strawberry fields became a battlefield and the site of a vicious cycle of violence.
Out of these green fields, red fruit, sky and sea, could emerge a pastoral image of farmers earning their livelihood by working the land. But in Gaza it is not the laws of nature that rule but those of the Occupation

On our first day in Penang, we came across this poster pasted on the wall of the kopi shop when we were having our prawn mee for breakfast. There are 10 apprenticeships in traditional trades and crafts that are available:

You can stay a minimun of 6months to 1year to learn the skills. I am thinking if I am to stay in Penang for 10years, i will get to learn the basics of the 10 trades. I will be 37 by then.... ....hmm...

What is squareroots? (1st March 2009 to 1st March 2010)

This project is initiated by artist Shih Yun Yeo (Singapore). Through her studies in San Francisco Art Institute and then travelling for residencies in many countries, Shih Yun met many artists who have inspired her through the years. This project is a celebration of the FRIENDSHIP she has with these artists and ART, which is the link between them.
